How to: Prevent students from tipping back in their chairs

Isn’t this all too familiar?

Well, you ask, how do you prevent students from tipping back in their chairs?

We’ve all seen it (and probably even done it ourselves!) – students leaning back in their chairs. So often, students are unaware of what they are doing and its potential danger.

So many of us dislike sitting in an upright chair; we get uncomfortable, start slouching, put our feet up, or if we can, tip back in our chair!

This tells your brain you need more oxygen, and the only way to get it is to move! To prevent ‘chair tippers’ try switching the chair to something that moves (like a rocker or a Hokki stool). Movement gets the oxygen-rich blood flowing to your brain and therefore increases engagement.
